Everyone has bad habits, but are your bad habits and mental blocks holding you back from success? Do you often wonder if there’s a way to retrain your brain or kick your bad habits for good?
Your habits are everything. The difference between good or bad habits can mean the difference between a good or bad life. Bad habits create obstacles in your day-to-day life that hinder your ability to reach your goals. If you don’t retrain your brain, these bad habits and mental blocks will always be there, holding you back from success.
How can you reach your highest potential when you have so many bad habits, mental blocks and self-limiting beliefs?
Bad habits such as procrastination, perfectionism and laziness can get in the way of success, but so can mental blocks. Have you ever had one of those days where you just stare out the window with a mental block? And you keep asking yourself questions such as, “Why can’t I be just be productive and focus on my daily goals?” Or “How come other people are able to get so much done in one day?”
What you need to know, is that your mind is an incredible tool if it’s trained properly. The problem is that most people never meet themselves at their full potential, or try hard enough to find the strength. That’s why mental blocks happen ,and bad habits are developed by our own consciousness.
Now, I want you to ask yourself this simple question: “What would it really take to be successful?”
Ask yourself this question, and then observe your own thoughts. Deep down, you probably already have the answers, and you probably already know what you need to change about yourself in order to be successful. You probably already know which bad habits are holding you back.
“What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve,” – Napoleon Hill
So, how can you retrain your mind, get rid of your bad habits, and experience less mental blocks?
Before we get into the nitty-gritty of it, let me share with you the most common bad habits and mental blocks that are holding most people back from success:
Being All Talk is One of The Bad Habits That Will Hold You Back in Life
Are you a doer or a talker? Do you just talk about all of your business plans and ideas, but never take action?
If you’re not committed to getting results or actually achieving your goals, you’re not likely to taste success. People with the bad habit of being all talk tend to just talk about stuff without taking any action.
This is what I sometimes call N.A.T.O (No Action Talk Only). I’m sure know someone that has this bad habit.
So why are so many people people all talk? Why is this one of the bad habits we see the most often? A lot of people want to have the glory of being successful, but they don’t want to pay the price by actually doing the work or taking the actions.
But how will you get results if you don’t take any action? How do you expect to achieve success if you aren’t willing to put the effort in?
Talking, planning, and brainstorming is important for goal-setting, but failure to act won’t bring you an inch nearer to success.
In life, success doesn’t just fall down from the sky and land in your lap. You need to work for what you want.
Most unsuccessful people like to talk a lot and they have plenty of opinions. They complain a lot and discuss how tough the business world is. Even though they already know the answer to their problem is to break some of their bad habits, they don’t anything to change their circumstances. Most unsuccessful people like to talk a lot and have plenty of opinions. But they rarely do anything to change their life. Click To Tweet
Talking about your goals, dreams, or desired income won’t happen if you’re not implementing any actions to work towards those goals.
Stop Thinking You’ll Fail Before You Even Start
Why are you even thinking about failing when you have not yet started? Are you afraid of failing? If so, you need to work on your self-confidence. But you also need to work on your attitude towards failure, because failure can be a really good thing if you learn something important from the failure.
In general, try to develop a more positive outlook, and be less cynical.
You will manifest failure if you keep this negative mindset. This type of negativity is one of the worst bad habits you can have.
“Only those who dare to fail greatly can achieve greatly.” – Robert F. Kennedy
You need to eliminate these bad habits of negativity and self-doubt in order to be successful in life or in business. You see, successful people are not afraid of failing. Successful people understand that failure is a great way to learn, improve, and get better. Failure is necessary for success.
Thomas Edison failed 1,000 times inventing the light bulb.
Henry Ford failed and went broke five times before he succeeded.
Van Gogh sold only one painting during his lifetime. And he only sold it to the sister of one of his friends for 400 Francs (approximately $50 dollars). But that failure didn’t stop Van Gogh from completing over 800 paintings.
I myself failed at 13 businesses before I became a self-made millionaire.I only had one plan, which was to succeed. That was Plan A , and there was no Plan B or Plan C. Click To Tweet
Like I said, having negative thoughts about failing is one of the worst bad habits someone can have. Especially if you’re an entrepreneur or business owner.
Remember that mistakes can be a huge advantage in business and in life. That’s why failure isn’t something to be afraid of.
Big Egos and Dismissing Self-Improvement Opportunities
Confidence is a very valuable trait, but to have a big ego is one of the most detrimental bad habits anyone can have.
If you have a mindset of, “Oh, I don’t need any additional education” or “ I’m good enough, I don’t need a mentor” what does that say about you? It says you have an unrealistic viewpoint on business and a big ego. A big ego can cause you to miscalculate your choices of what you need to do next to achieve greater success.
You see, almost all self-made millionaires continuously upgraded their skills and constantly sought out more education, more knowledge, and more resources.
Most self-made millionaires are confident, but they know they can always improve themselves. So, to achieve greater success, you need to invest more time in personal growth.Destroy your EGO before it destroys you and your success. Click To Tweet
When you think of self-improvement, what do you think of? This is not only getting help from a mentor or a coach, but it’s also things like reading more books, taking online courses, and developing your skills.
By reading books, for example, you’re changing how your mind works by understanding different perceptions. And that’s very powerful. On top of that, reading helps you understand what’s happening in the world and keeps you updated with the latest trends in business. You’ll be able to learn things that most people don’t bother learning. You’d be surprised how many people don’t bother reading or expanding their knowledge. By reading more books, you’ll definitely have a competitive advantage in the business world.
Constantly Giving Excuses and Complaining
You want to change, but you feel exhausted, depressed, lost, anxious and hopeless. Guess what? A lot of people are tired, exhausted, anxious – the list goes on. But you can’t keep giving yourself excuses to maintain your bad habits.
Sadly, there are many people who feel stuck in life, yet are not doing anything about it. They want to be successful but they are coming up with excuses, instead of taking action.
Let’s pretend you just told me, “Dan, I know what I’m saying is just excuses, but I’m not complaining.”
Huh? What do you mean? What does it mean by you know it’s an excuse, but you’re not complaining?
The truth is, you are aware that you’re giving excuses. But what are you doing about it? Can you take some responsibility? Have you done anything to make a change, or tried to break some of your bad habits? Or, are you just constantly making more and more excuses?
“Oh, no Dan, all I meant was . . . “
I don’t care. No explanation is required. Nobody cares about your excuses. What are the actions you are going to take to change? That’s what people care about.
Nobody really cares about the reason why you’re late, why you forgot, why you procrastinated. They’ll just get annoyed with your excuses.
Always Waiting For The Right Time
If it’s not now, then when? If you’re always thinking about waiting for the right time to change, or waiting until you’re “ready” to change, you will lose out on countless opportunities.
There’s no right time for change. People generally don’t like to change, so they’ll always say they’re not ready. When you’re mentally and physically prepared, or even if you’re not, just set your mind to it and conquer it.
There’s no need for you to wait for the stars to align perfectly for you to make the most of your life.
Every minute and every hour counts. Especially when you’re chasing success. You can’t wait for the right time, and that ‘waiting’ habit is one of the bad habits you must break.
By telling yourself, “I’m not ready yet” you’re only creating mental blocks and killing your dreams of becoming a successful person.
Break Bad Habits: Surrender Without a Fight
Don’t create a gap between you and your success. Do you motivate yourself to find a solution when you see an obstacle? Or you find yourself retreating to a dark place in despair?
Most successful people have worked hard to retrain their minds to produce conducive thoughts. By practicing positive thoughts, you’ll build confidence and take more risks, have less fear of failure, and achieve success faster.
Creating a new pathway in your mind is easier said than done. But with proper coaching, you’ll be able to achieve that shift.
You’ve got to eliminate all bad habits and create a new pathway in your mind for future growth and success.
Now, when it comes to generating results, you need to condition your mind to win.
Do not wait for the right time. Create the right time, and make that time occur today. Take control of your success.
You see, when you set your mind to winning, you won’t think about failing before you even start.
Don’t chase the money – chase dreams. Dreams are for winners, and winners take responsibility for their own life and success.
Winners know that their success, their future, and their income is secured by standing up and taking action.
So, if you want to break free from your bad habits and mental blocks, never surrender without a fight.
Retrain Your Mind
Repeating positive phrases to yourself (positive affirmations) can help you kick bad habits and change your life. If you simply tell yourself, “I am strong and successful”, your mind will start to believe what it’s hearing.
So, by using positive affirmations, you can develop a stronger mindset. Repeating positive affirmations to yourself is a good habit. However, you need to maintain this habit in order for it to work.
If you want to be successful, one of the first things to change is your mindset. Once you retrain your mind, everything else will flow more smoothly.
You will then notice small changes within yourself, gradually.
Some people say that the problem with affirmations is that they operate at the surface level of conscious thinking. Your self-limiting beliefs are in your subconscious mind.
So, how can you go deep into your subconscious mind?
You need to observe your positive affirmations on a deeper level.
For example, if you tell yourself, “I am a High Ticket Closer” but your subconscious mind thinks that you can’t be a good closer, you might have trouble believing in yourself.
Now, to tackle both your conscious and subconscious mind, you need to do this:
Daily Affirmations and Meditation
Repeat positive affirmations every single day. Don’t just practice positive affirmations sometimes. Write down positive affirmations on post-it notes – as many as possible – and stick them all over your house. Some people even write on their mirrors. Write like how you talk to yourself, but write only positive things.
“The mind is everything. What you think, you become.” – Buddha
Affirmation example: “I am an incredible writer.”
Experts estimate that humans have between 50,000 – 70,000 thoughts per day. And in an hour, we have about 2,100 thoughts.
The thing is, most of these thoughts are useless, unimportant, or negative. So, being aware of your thoughts is an important element when it comes to retraining your mind.
As I said in the beginning, your mind is an incredible tool. If you have experience with meditation, you know that the great number of thoughts passing through your mind is incredible.
This type of conditioning is what I call a mental habit because most of our thinking happens automatically – it’s an automatic process. And this process takes place when you need to focus on something in particular.
That’s why, I believe, by meditating daily for 15 to 30 minutes, you can slow down your thoughts.
Now, you might have these questions in mind, “How will the mind work better when your thoughts slow down?”
Well, when your thoughts slow down, you’ll be able to:
- Solves problems better
- Gain better clarity
- Reduce stress
- Improve focus
In order to be able to focus on your priorities, without getting distracted by unwanted thoughts entering your mind, you should try meditating. What else should you try?
Write a Letter to Your Younger-Self
Writing a regret letter to your younger self is important because this is where you will forgive yourself for all the mistakes and bad habits that made you struggle.
Let’s say you’ve made many silly mistakes over the past ten years. You were thinking about how much time you’ve wasted, and the things you could have done but didn’t do because of your bad habits.
Write a letter to your younger self and apologize for not instilling good habits before. Tell your younger self that it will get better from here, and all is not lost.
And then, leave that letter aside for a day. The next day, read your letter and observe your subconscious mind.
Many of my students have had tears fall when reading their letters to themselves the next day. But bear in mind, you need to be completely honest with yourself when completing this exercise. That’s when it’s most powerful.
You’ll notice an incredible shift of your mind once you’ve done this exercise.
