Do you feel like you can’t live your life to its fullest potential? That there’s something holding you back?
There’s a lot of people that aren’t really living life. They’re alive, walking around and going about their lives, but they aren’t really living. Most of them are forced to do things they don’t want to do, because of things holding them back like expenses, bills, debt and the people around them.
One of the most common examples I see today is the typical office worker. They wake up in the morning without enough sleep, commute by transit while surrounded by other strangers doing the same thing, only to spend the next 8 hours of their day in an office cubicle doing work they despise. And the reason they tolerate that is because they have no choice.
They have to make a living and put food on the table. As much as they’d like to hop off that bus and frolick through the grass fields that they pass by every day on the way to work, the reality is that they are chained to their desks. They have a family to feed, kids that are growing up, or parents to support. They are slaves of their own making.
So how do you live your life to its fullest? How do you give yourself the feeling of satisfaction in life? Today we’re going to look at how to fully live your life, before it’s too late to try again.
One Life, One Chance, One Dream
Every person on this planet only has one life to live. Unlike a video game, you only get one shot. You can’t go back and redo everything if you aren’t satisfied with it.
The problem is that most people do not realize this. They think they have all the time in the world. That they can always get another shot, when they feel like it. As a result, they procrastinate or make excuses as to why they shouldn’t do what they were destined to do.
I believe each and every person on this planet has a role to fulfill. Something that is greater than themselves, that provides immense value to those around them. For example, when I finally became a millionaire at the age of 26, the first thing I did was go on vacation. I spent 3 weeks in Hawaii, slacking off in a comfy beach chair in front of an ocean side view. I even had a nice cocktail in my hand every single time I went, and sipped it as leisurely as the waves lapped onto the sand.
After 3 weeks I was bored out of my mind.
One day I woke up and realized: “What am I doing with my life?”
I had lost my sense of purpose. Even though I had finally ‘made it’, I didn’t feel satisfied. Something was still missing, and I felt I was destined for more.
So I returned home, and thought deeply about what it was that I wanted to do. I didn’t want to go on vacation – I already did that and it was boring as hell. After much pondering, thinking and sleepless nights, I finally realized that my passion was teaching others. You only have one life to live. Make it count. Click To Tweet
How I Began My Lifelong Journey Of Educating Others
I want to help others.
That was the first thought that popped into my head. I was financially free, and now I wanted to do the same for others. I wanted to teach them what I knew, from my years in business and share with them the knowledge that I had.
Because every single day as I walked down the street, I saw the faces of unfulfilled people. Everyone was on their way somewhere, but no one was smiling. No one had life in their eyes or a spark of passion. The way they spoke was monotone and dry, as though they were just going through the motions. I doubt they even knew I was there.
So I thought about how these people could live a life with purpose. And I broke it down into 3 things:
How A Vacation In Hawaii Created The Dan Lok Organization
The first step to fully live your life, is to have money. At that point I was financially free, and never had to work for anyone ever again.
But the people around me weren’t. They were still stuck in their same old boring routine, of having to go to work every single day. Money was something they were lacking in their life, that prevented them from fully living their life.
That was how the Dan Lok Organization was first created. At that point I knew nothing about teaching people – I only knew how to make money. So I began searching for outlets as a way to get my message out there. I focused my time on public speaking gigs, creating YouTube videos, and hosting workshops.
Before long, I started to build a reputation for myself. I began speaking to larger and larger audiences, getting featured on news television stations and even being sought out for my knowledge and expertise. I’ve even had the opportunity to be a TEDx opening speaker twice.
That was a key turning point in my life. Having financial freedom was one thing, but being recognized by people around the world provides you with a sense of satisfaction that money could never fill. Slowly and slowly overtime, my name and brand grew and more and more people recognized who I was.
I remember flying to international countries like Japan, China and India and had fans asking if they could take a picture with me. My bank accounts may have had millions in it, but those opportunities are what made me truly feel like a millionaire.
Money Is Worthless Without Knowing Your Life’s Passion
I was slowly starting to become a celebrity. My YouTube channel grew larger and larger every day, with more and more people telling me how I had changed their lives.
All I really did was film videos in a car while on my way to work. But I guess there’s something interesting about watching a millionaire in a Bentley give financial advice. Because that’s what propelled my YouTube channel to over 1,000,000 subscribers in less than a year.
I had finally found my passion. And I knew I would be doing it for the rest of my life.
Becoming a millionaire wasn’t the answer. Vacationing in Hawaii wasn’t the answer either. Helping others, teaching them, mentoring them and sharing with them what I knew, was what I was missing all this time.
I’ve had a lot of people ask me why I do all of this. Why I work so tirelessly to create videos every single day. And the reason is because it is my passion. It’s what I want to do with my life. Teaching others gives me a sense of fulfillment that you can’t get anywhere else.
Finding Your Passion Is Fundamental To Living Your Life To Its Fullest
If you want to live your life to its fullest potential, you need to find your passion. Before I discovered that teaching was my passion, money didn’t mean that much to me. But once I started sharing with others what I knew, my life became much more fulfilling. I was sharing my knowledge with others and changing people’s lives.
Once you have money and are financially free, you need to focus on finding your passion. What you do to create wealth is not necessarily what your passion is. That’s why I teach my students to not “Do what you love and the money will follow.” If that were true, there wouldn’t be so many struggling artists trying to auction off their paintings.
What you should do, is do what makes you money and then focus on finding your passion afterwards. Focus on one goal at a time, or you will become overwhelmed. You can always discover your passion later on in life, after you’ve made your money. But while you are young and full of energy, you want to spend that time focusing on creating wealth. Because your passion is most likely going to consume a lot of money. And if you want to fund it, you’ll need a way to consistently bring in income.
Create Money, Find Your Passion, And Achieve Freedom
After you have made your wealth and discovered your passion, what should you do next to live your life to its fullest?
The answer that I discovered is quite shocking. You do absolutely nothing. You see, in the process of creating your wealth and discovering your passion, you have already achieved what most people strive for: Freedom.
When you have enough money to never have to work again, and spend your time doing what you love, you have found freedom. You can now fully live your life the way you want to, without being held back by anyone or anything.
Most people feel they do not fully live their lives because they are held back by not having enough money, or by doing something they hate. Research shows that on a scale of 1-10, US citizens rate their happiness at only a 6. When you have acquired money and discovered your passion, there is nothing that’s missing in your life. And when there’s nothing missing in your life, you become fulfilled.
That was what I didn’t realize when I went to Hawaii. I thought that I was already living life to its fullest, by using my wealth to travel to places that I’ve always wanted to visit. But once I spent 3 weeks on that beach, I became sick and tired of it.
Human beings naturally get bored very easily. If you do the same thing every single day, you will get bored of it very, very fast. That’s why acquiring wealth first is very important, or you will be stuck doing the same thing every single day at your job. And you will feel unfulfilled because your job is making you feel bored.Make your money first. Your wealth will be used to fuel your passion. Click To Tweet
Why Your Passion Is Something You Will Never Become Tired Of
If your passion is to teach and help others, you may be wondering:
“Dan, you do that stuff every single day. Don’t you get bored of it?”
The answer is yes and no. Because it’s my passion, I don’t get bored so easily. It’s what I was destined to do, what I feel fulfills me in ways money never could. As a result, I can do it for days on end without feeling like it’s boring me.
In situations when I feel as though my passion is starting to become boring, I will switch it up. If I’m tired of making YouTube videos, instead I’ll go on stage and speak to a crowd. If I’m getting bored of speaking, I’ll speak to one of my students 1:1 and spend time mentoring them. If I’m tired of staying in one country, I’ll go on vacation and even shoot an Instagram video of my adventures.
My passion is teaching others to become financially free. There are a LOT of avenues that I can do in order to achieve that. That’s why you see me almost everywhere you go – on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, my own website, TV stations, Radio stations, magazines etc.
All of those are avenues that contribute to making my passion of teaching others possible. And because they are all different, I don’t get bored as easily, because I can always switch it up when things are getting stale. If you have a passion that you want to pursue, remember that there are many ways to go about making it happen.
Time Is The Greatest Asset You Will Have
In your journey to create wealth and discover your passion, your greatest asset will be time.
Time is something we all only have a limited amount of. It’s something that we can never get back, no matter what. If you lose money, you can always make it back. And if lost, your passion can always be re-discovered
Most people mistake money as the greatest asset they have, when in reality they should be worrying more about their time. As a result they will spend years working at a job they hate to try to save up enough they can retire off of. The only problem is, by the time you’ve acquired that much money by working for someone else, you’ll be in your late 40’s or 50’s. You won’t have much time left to enjoy it, or even discover your passion in life.
The worst thing that could happen, is that you spend your entire life trying to create wealth and discovering your passion, only to realize you have no time left to make it happen. At that point, you’ll have many, many regrets and feel you’ve wasted your life. And that’s no way to live your life.
Keep in mind how much time you have left, and how you can achieve your goals in the shortest amount of time possible. That is why I teach my students to create their wealth first while they are still young, so they can spend their later years discovering their passion. In most cases, finding your passion in life takes many years, and for some, it is a lifelong journey. If you focus on your passion instead of creating wealth, you may find that by the end of it, you won’t have the time or energy to make your money.
The Fastest Way To Become Financially Free And Turn It Into A Lifelong Passion
Some people may not agree with me on this. But I believe that spending your entire life working a 9-5 job that you hate is no way to live life. That is why I believe that if you want to create a life you are proud of, you need to have the skills and mindset to make it happen.
A lot of people want to become rich. And a lot of people want to become happy. The problem is that they have no idea how to get there. Traditional education systems don’t teach you how to make money, and finding your passion and achieving happiness is something unique to each and every one of us. That’s why instead of telling people what they should focus on, I teach them to discover it for themselves.
In order to live your life to its fullest, you need to be content with who you are. If you are a millionaire but everyone around you thinks you are a jerk, you aren’t going to be very satisfied. That’s why learning and developing yourself is a lifelong journey, one that will never end until you’ve reached your fullest potential. And the only way to do that is to begin your journey today.
