I don’t know what brought you here. But I do know it’s that time of the year again.

The time you get to press the reset button and hit your goals for the new year.

Maybe you’ve set your New Year’s Resolutions before but by December, you felt discouraged only to find out you didn’t meet any of your goals. Or maybe you’ve set your goals but lost momentum because procrastination got in the way.

Whatever the case may be. You’re here because you want to make a change.

Now, you may have read a lot of different books, blog posts, and youtube videos on how to hit your goals already.  So this likely isn’t your first quest for answers. All of those resources teach you a lot of different ways to reach your goals, but let me ask you a question.

What keeps bringing you back to square one?

You are looking for that one tactic. You’re looking for that one piece of advice. You’re trying to find that one answer to finally end your search.

You can learn all the how-to’s out there for your entire life and still never reach your goals. Studies show that nearly 92% of people who set their New Year’s Resolutions never actually achieve them. Why? Because the secret does not lie in the “how” it lies in the “who.”

Who do you need to be to achieve all your goals? What kind of skills do you need to develop?

What do I mean by that?

Let me explain with an example.

Let’s say your goal is to become a rich owner. In order to become a rich owner, you need to first think like a rich owner. When you think the way a rich owner thinks and when you do what a rich owner does, you will likely have a rich owner has.

However, if you say you want to become a rich owner but you think like a poor person and waste away your weekends’ gambling, chances are you won’t become one.

Imagine a lottery ticket winner. Do you know what happens to most lottery ticket winners? Within three to five years, they go broke. Why? Because they have a poor person mindset.

Poor people don’t understand how money works. They don’t know how to make it. They don’t know how to keep it and they definitely don’t know how to multiply it. That’s why you don’t often see lottery ticket winners sitting at the top for very long.

When you become the person you need to be, doing what’s necessary to hit your goals will no longer be a problem.

Before you go looking for all the tips on goal setting, figure out who you need to be and what skills you need to develop first.

When I became clear on who I needed to become, I implemented,  what took me 15 years to learn. The secret to setting goals.

I’ve whittled down my 15 years of experience into 4 simple secrets and I’m going to share them with you today.

1. Don’t Be Afraid To Be Bold

By definition, if you set a goal and you know exactly how to accomplish it. Your goal is too small.

You should have such a big goal that you have no clue how to get there. In order to hit your goals, you need to want it so desperately, you will do whatever it takes to make it happen.

For example, one of my goals is to reach 10 million subscribers on my Youtube channel. It’s a pretty big goal. And I don’t know exactly how I’m going to get there. But I do know I’ve already met my goal to reach 100,000 subscribers, 1 million subscribers, 2 million subscribers. So why can’t I reach 10 million subscribers?

It might take me 3 years, 5 years, maybe even 10 years. It doesn’t matter how long it takes because it’s part of my mission. The point is, your goal should scare you a little bit. It should stretch you outside your comfort zone so you can make real changes in your life.

If it’s part of who you are and you know it’s what you want, don’t be afraid to be bold.

2. Don’t Be Vague, Be Laser Beam Focused

When it comes to goal setting, you have to be very specific.

For example, let’s say you want to make more money or you want to become more successful. That’s a wish or a dream.

A goal is saying “I want to make $100,000 in income in the next 12 months.” See the difference. You know exactly how much you want to make and when you want to make it.

If you want it to be massively powerful, what I always do is I put it in front of my face so I can see it. You and I, along with all great leaders like Bill Gates, Elon Musk, and Jack Ma, have the same amount of time in a day. We all have exactly 24 hours.  But what sets those leaders apart from the rest of society is their ability to be laser-beam focused.

And if you’re familiar with my work, you know I’m a huge proponent of altering my environment to enhance my productivity. I’m very aware and very careful of what I focus on because I know where my attention goes, energy flows, and results will show.

Therefore, I write my goals out with pen and paper. Every day when I walk into my office, it’s one of the first things I look at. So I know exactly what I need to focus on.

3. Don’t Work In Large Chunks, Reverse Engineer

Have you ever found yourself stuck after setting a goal? If you have, then try doing what I like to do, reverse engineer.

Let’s go back to the same money example. Your goal is to make $100,000 in the next 12 months. That’s a big goal. When you approach it from that perspective, it can feel a bit intimidating. What you want to do is work backward or reverse engineer.

Break down your goal into a 12-month timeline. Figure out what you need to do on a monthly basis, a weekly basis, and then a daily basis. If you want to make $100,000 in 12 months, divide it by 12 months, then divide it into weeks, and then divide it even further into days.

This way you know how much you need to make each day to hit your income goal every single month.

4. Don’t Keep It A Secret, Tell The Whole World

Instead of keeping your goals to yourself and thinking, “I’m going to work on this and when I get there, then I’m going to go tell other people about it.”

No. Do the opposite. Declare it to the whole world first.

Tell them this is who I am. This is what I’m going to do. This is who I want to be. These are the skills I want to have. And these are my goals.

Let the world hold you accountable to your goals. You don’t need to rely on your willpower and discipline. I have probably accomplished more in a year than most people accomplish in a lifetime. And still, I do not trust my own discipline.

From the beginning, when I started my Youtube Channel, I told the whole world I was going to hit 100,000 subscribers. And we did that. Then I declared to the world we were going to hit 1 million subscribers by the end of 2018. We did that.

Now, we’ve announced we’re going to hit 10 million subscribers. And guess what. We are going to do that.

I don’t hide my goals and keep them to myself. It’s counter-productive. So instead, I tell the whole world this is what I intend to do. By doing that, I am morally obligated to keep my word and do whatever it takes to make it happen.

Where Do You Start To Hit Your Biggest Goals In 2020

Most people focus too much on being busy all the time. They’re doing a hundred different things. But by the end of the year, they get frustrated because they haven’t accomplished their goal.

They lack direction and the right skills to get the result they want.

The key is to think a little bit deeper and ask yourself.

“Do I have unrealistic expectations?”

“How do I shift my mental capacity?”

“Who do I need to be? What skills do I need to develop?”

Because chances are, whatever you are capable of right now, whether it’s your skill or mentality, it gives you your current result.

But if you want to get to the next level, you need to learn more and become more. When you’re trying to hit your biggest goals for the year especially your financial goals. One of the things you need to focus on is your skills. In this case, it’s high-income skills.

When you know what skills you need to upgrade, now you can ask yourself, “What am I doing today to move me closer to my goal?”

Every single day, you’ll know what you need to focus on. You no longer have to run around keeping yourself busy on trivial tasks. And you don’t need to wait until the end of the year to find out if you’ve reached your goal.

With this mentality, you don’t need to do that anymore. If you want to free yourself from feeling like a failure every year, click here to find out what your high-income skill is.
