How do you motivate yourself when no one else believes in you?
I can give you two answers: the one I should say, and the one that’s the truth. The politically correct answer is you have to hustle, put your head down, know your goal and where you’re going. You hear this answer a lot, but it’s not the answer you’re looking for.
Here’s the truth. If you need someone to motivate you, then you’re not that motivated. High performance people are self motivated. So how can you increase your motivation?
Start with your self confidence. If you know what it is that you want, then go after it without fear. Don’t wait for the approval of others. Next, follow these tips on setting high performance goals.
Operate On Your Own – Don’t Ask For Permission
Maybe you blame your family for your lack of motivation. You’ll say things like your spouse, your parents, or your kids don’t support you. Or you’ll blame your friends.
You resent them because you’re working hard as an entrepreneur to start your own business. You want to do your best, but they’re not next to you, feeling proud of you. Instead, when they see how hard the path is for you, they want you to quit and go back to the familiar life.
They want you to get a job and work until retirement because this is the path they know, so this is the future that feels safe. It makes them uncomfortable that you aren’t following tradition. They fear that you are trying something different and you will succeed.
Don’t expect their support! The air is thin at the top. You have to learn to be alone without being lonely because that’s just the path to success.
That’s what’s holding you back: not a lack of a plan or business idea. It’s the fact that you cannot operate on your own. You need permission from the people around you.
You want your family to understand that you are trying to make more money so you can better the lives of your loved ones.
But you don’t get the support you are looking for. Most of the time, your family just doesn’t understand. You are expecting something from them that won’t happen. And you let the lack of support hold you back.
You’re waiting for permission, thinking you’re going to hear, “Yeah, go ahead!”
But you don’t. And that’s okay because you can set your own goals and be successful.
Watch this video as I explain how you can motivate yourself.
Set Goals Without Their Support
So why don’t they support you? It’s very simple. I went through this in my own life. First of all, they don’t understand. Most of us grew up in an educational system that taught you to behave in a certain way. Go to school, get good grades, get a degree, get a job, and work until you’re 65. Then get married, have kids, and have a big mortgage. That’s your life.
Anything that deviates from tradition is stupid. Dangerous. Wrong.
The minute you choose a different path, your loved ones think you’re weird. Why can’t you do what everyone else is doing and be normal? Settle down, don’t take risks. Play it safe.
The more you deviate from that traditional path, the bigger the distance between you and them. They’re afraid you’ll leave them behind.
That’s the real reason why your family and friends won’t support you to become mega successful. They don’t want you living their dream life, traveling, living in that beautiful dream home and driving that luxury car that they can’t afford. All this, while they are living paycheck to paycheck.
They might cheer you on, but deep down inside, their lower self makes them jealous. It’s human nature. So you’re wasting your time if you’re waiting for their support.
Believe in yourself and set your own goals to achieve your dream. High performers work on improving themselves everyday. Each day, they take consistent action and schedule their tasks to avoid wasting time. They prioritize what’s important and eliminate distractions such as constant phone notifications.
Here is a list of some high-performance strategies that you can implement on a regular basis.
Do What You Believe Is Right
Do what you believe is right and walk your own path. Tell yourself, this is my life, not theirs. Do what you need to do, but don’t wait for someone to motivate or understand you.
In sports, entertainment, and business, anyone who has achieved excellence didn’t need to be motivated. They demanded more from themselves than anyone else could. So don’t wait.
Final Thoughts On How To Motivate Yourself
If you’re a high performance person, you don’t need anyone, not even videos, to motivate you. If people around you don’t support you, you will set your own goals and achieve them without anyone’s support.
So if you have a goal, do what you believe is right and follow that path. Demand the best for yourself and celebrate when you reach your success.
