AI has already started to replace humans. It has started to take over. Most big-name companies have A.I already implemented at some stage of their process. According to Gartner’s 2019 survey, 37 % of organizations have implemented AI in some form. That’s a 270% increase over the last four years. According to PwC, 38% of US jobs are potentially under high risk of replacement by the early 2030s. Followed by Germany (35%), the UK (30%), and Japan (21%).

Lack of Perception and Manipulation

  • Finger Dexterity: AI lacks the ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands. Which means it lacks the ability to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • Manual Dexterity: The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm.
  • Cramped Work Space: Jobs that require getting into awkward positions.

Lack of Creative Intelligence

  • Originality: It lacks the ability to come up with unusual or clever ideas about a given topic or situation. Or to develop creative ways to solve a problem.
  • Fine Arts: It lacks knowledge of theory. And the techniques required to compose, produce and perform works of music, dance, visual arts, drama, and sculpture.

Lack of Social Intelligence

  • Social Perceptiveness: AI isn’t capable of being aware of others’ reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Negotiation: AI can’t bring others together and try to reconcile differences.
  • Persuasion: It can’t persuade others to change their minds or behavior.
  • Caring for Others: It can’t provide personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to patients.

Hence, despite all the development in AI, it still can’t:

  • Create, conceptualize or manage strategic planning.
  • Do complex work that requires precise hand-eye coordination.
  • Deal with unknown and unstructured spaces, especially ones that it hasn’t observed.
  • Feel or interact with empathy and compassion.

What Are The Types Of Jobs That Won’t Be Replaced By AI?

As traditional jobs are gone, the importance of skills continues to increase by the day. We are rapidly moving into a skill-based economy.  If you look at the weaknesses of AI mentioned above…you can see that there are still many opportunities remaining. So, the best way to prepare yourself for the upcoming revolution is:

  • Determine the skills and traits that are irreplaceable
  • Develop and improve upon them

You could look at this way…The jobs that won’t be replaced by AI will require either of these two types of skills:

  • Advanced Technical Skills
  • Soft Skills

Let’s look at each of these. 

Advanced Technical Skills

These are skills you can gain through education, training programs, certifications, and on-the-job training. They can be defined and evaluated – they can be quantified. You may already have a degree required to pursue a career with these skills. But, with all these rapid changes to earn a decent living, you would have to specialize. Some jobs may need many years of experience. You need the credentials and years of work under your belt.  You will need to have the ability and knowledge to perform specific tasks. Often, to stand out, you would have to at least have a master’s degree.

Hence, these jobs are not for everyone. However, they are in high demand due to the levels of specialization needed.

Soft Skills

Jobs that won’t be replaced by AI that are meant for most people will fall under this skill set. These jobs will have a “human touch” or interpersonal skills. You can develop these skills without a degree. But, you may need to have a certain level of creativity to succeed. Sometimes strong feelings such as empathy can help you with these types of jobs as they involve working with people. Whether you’re a therapist, a coach, or a salesperson – you need to be able to resonate with people.  

Bottom line: AI can’t easily replace human emotions and behaviors that customers and audiences identify with. Hence, the majority of the jobs that won’t be replaced by AI will be based on developing soft skills. Mastering them will be the best way to secure your future.

Robotics – Technicians or Engineers

I am sure you can see the irony in this one… With AI and robots set to replace humans – Humans are required to build them.

  • Enterprise Robots
  • Autonomous Vehicles
  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicles 

Robotics market growth will be $226 billion worldwide by 2021. If you are an engineer or a programmer, you may want to consider this option. However, this field requires a high level of sophistication. You need to have a lot of research and technical training. Robotics has jobs for each of its stage of development:

  • R&D
  • Planning & manufacturing 
  • Safety Testing
  • Maintenance
  • Analyzing
  • Debugging

You would require advanced degrees in engineering or programming to secure jobs in this field.  As AI continues to evolve, it will start consuming entry-level jobs in robotics. You will have to keep yourself updated with the changes that happen.

Data Science Roles

If you are a data scientist you benefit both companies and consumers. It has critical applications across most industries. It combines several disciplines:

  • Statistics
  • Data analysis
  • Machine learning
  • Computer science

This job is very much in demand. Data science experts are needed in virtually every job sector. For example:

  • Data is used by farmers for efficient food growth and delivery.
  • Used by food suppliers to cut down on food waste.
  • And by nonprofit organizations to boost fundraising efforts and predict funding needs.

There are many jobs that won’t be replaced by AI in this field. But, it is not an easy career to pursue. Why? You need a strong educational background. You are required to develop a sound depth of knowledge to be a data scientist. According to this article by James Cook University, data scientists “[require] a commitment to education, skill development and on-the-job learning” to attain a successful data science career. “In addition to hard skills in technology and business, data scientists also need to master soft skills to be effective.”

Did you know that 88% have at least a Master’s degree and 46% have PhDs?

But the good news is…U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the rise of data science needs will create 11.5 million job openings by 2026.

Cybersecurity Experts

Information is a valuable currency. Earlier this field was only meant for government and defense departments. However, cybersecurity has now spread into every major industry. Keeping software, hardware, and data safe has become more important than ever. Why? Cyberattacks are happening all the time. Cybercriminal activity is one of the biggest challenges we will face in the next two decades. It is expected to cost the world $6 trillion by 2021.

These cybercrime damages have increased the demand for cyber defenders. This market is hungry for talent. And there is a shortage of people with the skills to fill these jobs. You can achieve a lot of success in this career. Because companies are ready to pay big salaries to boost their digital security. Cybersecurity Ventures predicts there will be 3.5 million cybersecurity job openings by 2021. That is a 350% growth in cybersecurity positions from 2013 to 2021.

Therapists or Counselors

Naturally, humans have an upper hand in jobs that require human interaction. Hence, this is one of the jobs that won’t be replaced by AI. As a counselor, you have to go through a certain level of education and training. More importantly, you need to empathize, understand and effectively communicate with patients. 

Especially the ones suffering from trauma. What’s more… You also need to pay attention to what someone is NOT saying. Your ability to understand and identify with another person’s experiences will come into play here.

This role is certainly one of the jobs that won’t be replaced by AI. Why? People are not comfortable with their loved ones being cared for by robots. People crave human interaction.  Even more so, when we are very young or too old. At this time in our lives, we need compassion and care more than ever.

Just like a therapist, this role also involves a deep understanding of the human condition. It also involves effective communication skills. You need to be able to spot when something is going wrong. Being able to read body language and non-verbal communication is key in this role.

As a caretaker for children, you will have to look after their basic needs, such as bathing and feeding. For older children, this job also entails helping with homework. You don’t need to have advanced degrees to do this job. But employers often prefer to hire workers with at least a high school diploma. And in some cases, basic education in early childhood care.

So, you may have to complete some training before beginning work.


Being an artist is another one of those jobs that won’t be replaced by AI. Why? Because you can never replace art with AI. Art needs some kind of “soul”. You see… Art is a product of human creativity.

Would you spend your money on songs sung by a machine? Or buy a perfect painting made by a bot? I wouldn’t. Because art needs a human element for you to appreciate its creation. Being an artist can mean many things:

  • Singer
  • Musician
  • Dancer
  • Actor
  • Director
  • Chef
  • Sculptor
  • Photographer
  • Painter
  • Hairdresser etc.

As an example, let’s look at the entertainment industry. The demand for consumption of content has been growing year over year. The last decade has seen the rise of streaming services. The global entertainment and media market is estimated to reach 2.6 trillion U.S. dollars till 2023.

In 2020, this market in the United States is expected to be worth over 720.38 billion U.S. dollars. The scope is huge here. However, being an artist comes with its drawbacks.

A 2017 survey showed that 75% of US artists earn less than $10k a year. You need a lot of hard work and luck to succeed. There is a lot of struggle and hardship in this field. However, if you are creative, being an artist will be a fulfilling career option.


The ability to judge people requires a lot of context and a realistic evaluation of situations. When it comes to morals and ethics, people won’t be open to AI being a judge anytime soon. The question of human bias being the input while designing the AI remains disputed.

What do I mean? AI can only be as good as the assumptions the programmers made when they made the program. So the question is… Do the programmers know what it takes to judge people? While policymakers debate on that question, this highly coveted job is not going anywhere.

What’s more…By 2026, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts job growth for judges will be 5% compared to 2016. Obviously, you need a lot of education and experience to become a judge.


Athletes and sports competitors participate in organized, officiated sporting events to entertain spectators. And humans love to see humans compete. Hence, this is one of the jobs that can’t be replaced by AI.  A career as a sportsperson is geared towards achieving as much success as possible within a particular sport. You get to compete at varying levels, from amateur to semi-professional and professional.

The good news is… You don’t require formal education or a degree to become an athlete. U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a growth of 6% from 2018-2028. However…Not everyone can be an athlete. It does demand a superior level of talent. Furthermore, deep knowledge and understanding of the sport are needed to maintain a full-time career.


Historians research, analyze, interpret the past. They study a variety of historical documents and sources. You will need a considerable amount of skill, knowledge, and experience to be a historian. Historians conduct research and analysis for:

  • Governments
  • Businesses
  • Nonprofits
  • Historical associations, and other organizations.

You would need a master’s degree or Ph.D. for most positions.  Usually, the first degree is in history, but it may be another subject that interests you. Your specialization would then be in the specific aspect of history you want to work for.

Bottom line: The above list of jobs that won’t be replaced by AI is by no means exhaustive. There are other job types as well that will make it through the AI invasion. However, if you look at the jobs you may have noticed that they require one or more of the below:

  • A lot of experience
  • A certain level of physical prowess
