Finding Effective Ways To Generate Leads For Your Business
As you probably know Dan Lok has been in this game a long time. He’s been in online marketing game since 2004, before Google, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok became buzzwords.
We’ve seen how internet marketing has evolved over the years, and it’s been very, very interesting to watch. These days there are tons of tips for digital marketers. There’s so much noise, so many best practices, that finding effective ways to generate leads for your business can appear more complicated than it is. But it doesn’t have to be.
Why do I say that? Let me explain. You see, when you’re trying to generate effective leads for your business it’s easy to get caught up in all the details, the day to day stuff. There are a lot of people that will tell you that you need to do things a certain way. They’ll say you have to run a campaign this way, or share links this way and not that. They’ll tell you to try this funnel, run a contest, do a certain type of webinar. You get the idea.
These are all good practices to think about. However, it’s easy to get caught up in all the finer details, get sucked into the black hole of online marketing, and lose sight of what you’re actually doing. Sometimes the best thing to do, to find effective ways to generate leads for your business, is to just step back and look at the bigger picture. Get some perspective. Ask yourself if you are doing things the right way.
It’s not about coming up with creative campaigns or offers, or using the latest tools or techniques. It’s about the principles and the strategies that you can use to effectively drive traffic to your online business or website, regardless of what else may happen.
You see, different tools come and go. Trends can be hot one second and be stone cold the next. And platforms can change their rules and regulations just like that. However, the strategies you need to successfully grow your business traffic and leads online will still be the same.

Watch this video about the five ways to drive traffic to your business.
1. Earn Leads Through Content Creation
Earn your leads by creating content. I’m talking about writing blogs, posting YouTube videos on your channel, or creating episodes for your podcast. All of this is free content that provides value, and is part of your content marketing strategy. When you add value to people’s lives, they will want to learn more about what you do and what you have to offer.
Why? The more value your audience receives, the more you start to build a relationship with them. The stronger your relationship with your audience, the more they will trust you. When that happens, when you’ve built enough trust, they’ll listen to you. That’s why valuable content it’s one of the most effective ways to generate leads for your business.
The first step is creating the content. And not just any content. You can’t just throw anything together and hope anyone who watches, reads or listens will be an instant fan. There’s a heck of a lot of noise out there, so you need to capture people’s attention. You want your business or brand to stand out from all the competition and get found. To do that, you need to produce quality content that makes an instant impact.
High-quality, impactful content is evergreen. It is is always relevant. For this to happen, your content needs to be informative, entertaining, and engaging. It has to have that ‘wow’ factor, to stick in people’s heads. In your videos, for example, try wearing a memorable red suit.

The problem with producing high-quality content is that it requires a lot of your time. It requires a lot of effort.
If you think of all the places on the internet, there are a lot of channels to feature your social media content. To be effective and get the results you want, you have to constantly feed your audience. It’s like this giant hungry content monster. It doesn’t matter how much content you create, no matter how much you feed it, it will eat it up and always want more. So you have to be prepared to put in the time, and put out a lot of content.
This is why I say you earn your leads. Whether it is daily or weekly, you are earning them by investing your time and your effort to create content on a consistent basis.
Now, there’s a time and place for content marketing, as I’m sure you know. But earning leads with your content shouldn’t be your only strategy. If it is, you are playing a dangerous game. You need to do more. So what else can you do?
2. Buy Traffic
By this, I mean paid traffic, when you pay to run ads online.
It can be Google ads, YouTube ads, Instagram ads, Google Display ads, Facebook ads. Any type of ad on social media. It can also be banner ads – those ads you see cutting into a social media post.
It doesn’t matter what kind you choose, you are paying for the ads and the leads it generates. Every ad impression – the times your banner, button, text link is seen – you are paying. Every time someone clicks on your banners, links or buttons, you pay. Each and every time, you’re spending actual dollars to drive traffic to your website.
This might not sound great, since it all costs money, but you need to do it. The reality is any online business, that is substantial, pretty much relies on buying traffic. They spend money – to acquire more traffic – in order to make money.
If you want to scale your business too, it means you have to buy and scale your traffic as well. When you can scale the number of visitors going to your website, your business or your offer, the more leads you generate and the more you grow. The more you pay, the more you get.
It’s a very powerful strategy and one of the most effective ways to generate leads for your business.
3. Borrow Traffic
Other businesses already have visitors going to their social media and websites. The question is, how can you borrow that traffic? How can you use their hard work, time, money, effort, to generate leads for your business?
It’s about leverage. You see, all businesses online are just like you. They’re all trying to get new leads, earning it, buying it, just like you are. They’re already getting a stream of visitors to their content and getting eyeballs on their products and services. And you can tap into that, borrow it.
Now, you might be thinking, “Ok Dan, but how do I do that exactly?” Well, there are a number of ways.
For instance, it could be through an affiliate program, or it might be through a joint venture. As an example, let’s say there’s a business with a list of 100,000 customers or leads. What you can do is approach that business and invite them to become joint venture partners. By that I mean you could strike a deal with them. You structure it so that, as a joint venture partner, that business will promote your offer to their list. And in exchange, they get a commission. Does that make sense? You are borrowing their traffic source.
Now, you don’t always have to pay commissions to borrow traffic. Another way you could borrow your traffic and generate leads is through content you’ve created – through your articles.
There are other websites or channels that may want or be willing to feature your content because they’ll benefit somehow. And what happens? Their visitors see your content and come to your site. Again, you are borrowing their traffic, but this time, instead of paying for it, it’s free.
So, that’s how you borrow traffic.
4. Recycle Traffic
Another of the effective ways to generate leads for your business is recycling your traffic. Now, what do I mean by this? Let’s say you have an opt-in offer where a visitor goes to your website, clicks the offer, and they provide you with their email address and name. Right there they have given you permission to communicate with them in the future.
Now you’re building your email list. You may have spent some money for these visitors through ad spend. Or, you may have earned it say through your YouTube content. Either way, they are now on your email list. Once you have them, you can start to build your relationship with them. You can keep sending them emails, or sending them offers. You’re driving them back to your website, to your YouTube channel, Facebook, Instagram, or your blog.
Basically, it’s the same visitor but you’re recycling the traffic, immersing them in your brand, your “ecosystem”. You’re hitting them over and over and eventually they will buy from you. In my case, what may happen is: a fan goes to my website, opts in to get my F.U. Money book, and then downloads it. After they have opted into the list, I’ll send them emails about my latest topics. Or, they’ll follow me on YouTube or Instagram.
So they might have come in through an email, but eventually they follow me on social media or they subscribe to my podcast or my blog. It’s the same person, but by shifting them through my different channels, I’m recycling my traffic.
5. Re-targeting Traffic
Re-targeting traffic is usually a function of Facebook, but it’s not the only place: you can also re-target traffic on YouTube, and Google as well.
So what’s the big deal? Why do we need to re-target your traffic? Well, imagine someone has visited your website and they’ve looked around. They’ve gone through your offer and, for whatever reason, they haven’t bought and left. Now, maybe they didn’t know you well enough, or they needed more time to think it over and come back later. It could even be that they didn’t feel the offer was for them. No problem. We’ll start to re-target them through ads.
Even if that visitor didn’t buy your offer then, but goes to their Facebook account later, they’ll see your ads. Or if they got to another website, they’ll see one of your ads. Or, they’ll watch a YouTube video and they’ll see your ad. The point is – and pay attention because this is very important – you’ve worked hard, maybe spent money, getting them to discover you or getting them to your channel. So, you don’t want to just let them go!
Now, if you’re thinking that this might not be worth the effort and customers will come back eventually, you’d be very surprised. According to recent surveys, only 2% of shoppers who visit a site will convert. Just 2%! That isn’t much. And of the 98% who left, guess how many came back again?…
Answer: 8%. That’s right, 8%. Think about that for a second… Hopefully now you understand why it’s in your best interest to re-target traffic, to remind people you’re there, and encourage them to come back.
How you do this can vary. You can give prospects more information about your company, show them testimonials, provide social proof, or build urgency in your information. It is up to you. By re-targeting them over and over you create more traffic and are doubling-down on the effective ways to generate leads for your business.
A Plan to Generate Leads, Increase Traffic, and Scale Your Business
Everything for driving traffic and generating leads online falls under these five categories. A question I get asked all the time is, if you’re just starting your business, which one should you start with?
My advice, to start with, would be to just pick one, just one. It’s up to you which strategy you choose to get your leads. It all depends on your budget and how much time you have to earn that traffic.
If you’ve got a particular offer that’s proven, that actually converts, you might want to start with borrowing other people’s traffic.
Or, if you don’t have much to spend but have more time, then maybe investing that time would be a better solution. Work on content creation, or write weekly blog posts, or create weekly podcasts or YouTube videos. These may not cost you a lot of money, they just take time. You’re investing your time, effort and talent to get eyeballs on your website and offer.
On the other hand, maybe you’ve already got an offer, you’ve done some blogging and content marketing, and you’ve decided it’s time to scale your business. What you want to do is allocate a budget to buy traffic to grow your business.
Whatever strategy you want to focus, do it until you get to a certain level. After that, you can mix things up and diversify. Within my own business, I do all five categories to earn leads. This means I get a lot of traffic but it also means I put in a lot of time, effort and resources.
I spend a lot of money to buy that traffic. I also have to make the deals so I can borrow traffic from joint ventures. My email lists, links from Instagram, and YouTube fans are all ways to recycle traffic. And I’ve got a pretty dialed in re-targeting funnel: if you’ve seen some of my content, you will get re-targeted again and again.
