SEO content writing is about writing valuable and useful content that is optimized for target keywords people search for to help you rank higher on Google search results. And it comes in the form of blog articles.
When someone goes to search something on Google – like a product, service, or information – you want to make sure they can find your website.
For example, let’s say someone was searching for “how to make money online” on Google’s search engine. As you know, what you get is about 7 to 10 search results for that topic or specific keyphrase.
Here the key phrase is “make money online”. The web pages that rank higher on the first page are the ones that Google thinks will be the most useful to the user.
If they click on the web page and enjoy the content and find valuable information that they’re likely to share on their social media platforms, then it increases the website’s popularity.
Usually, those sites have a strong SEO strategy established. This helps their website rank higher for specific search terms and gain more visibility in the marketplace.

How Does Google’s Algorithm Rank Web Pages?
It all starts with Google’s mission statement:
“Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”
Or another way to put it is, they strive to provide users with the most relevant answers and information for their search query.
According to Hubspot, Google shows you web pages on search results based on two things: relevance and authority.
The ones that have a high degree of both are the ones that are listed first. And those that are not are listed further down the list or on the next page.
Google’s algorithm is like a bunch of equations packed together to analyze how relevant and authoritative a web page’s content is. Now, your next question might be, “Well what do relevance and authority mean?”
Let me explain.
Relevance refers to how closely related a search query is to the content on a web page. And Google analyzes it by checking for different things like topics and target keywords.
Authority refers to how popular or how often the content on a web page is shared on social media platforms. And it’s measured by the number of trustworthy links that link back to that page. The more popular a piece of content is, the more Google assumes that it’s valuable to readers.

It’s important to note that Google’s algorithm does change regularly. In fact, Moz says that they make hundreds of updates to the algorithm every year but in 2018, they reported to have a whopping 3,234 updates. On top of that, their search algorithm is also a mysterious secret they don’t share with the public.
So, how much do these changes affect you?
Don’t be intimidated. They shouldn’t affect you much at all, at least for now.
Most changes are minor. There are occasionally major changes that can affect the way search results are ranked.
However, it’s not stopping 61% of marketers from improving their SEO and growing their organic (non-paid) presence as their top priority.
This means if you don’t adopt SEO as part of your marketing strategy, chances are, you’ll be left behind.

Other recent studies are also showing that:
- Nearly 70-80% of online users favor organic search results over paid search advertising.
- Organic SEO is about 5.66 times better than paid search ads.

SEO content writers understand that they are writing for “scanners” so it’s crucial that they properly structure their content to increase their chances of getting ranked.
What they will do is make sure they have an introduction of at least 200-300 words, a minimum of 3 subheadings with H2 formatting, subheadings with 150-300 words, and so on. If the subheadings happen to be more than 300 words, then they’ll just add another subheading. It’s as simple as that.
4. Pay Attention To Readability
Have you ever clicked the “back” button on your internet browser after scrolling through an article with nothing else in it but one “giant” paragraph?
If you have, then it’s probably because it hurt your eyes.
Readability is another factor SEO content writers focus on when they’re formatting their work because again, they’re writing for busy scanners.
They’ll do this by keeping their sentences short and limiting the number of sentences they use for one paragraph. They’ll write conversationally, using words like “you” and “I”. Meaning when you’re scrolling through a blog post, you’ll notice that good blogs leave a lot of white space in between and along the sides of the text. It allows you to read the content without straining your eyes.

Lastly and most importantly, write about something people care about. Too often, people make the mistake of writing without any real reason and without any real strategy.
