Here’s a report by Glassdoor on how much on average a copywriter earns.
As I mentioned, in the beginning, there’s a different range of writing services and levels of experience when it comes to copywriting careers. That’s why I said, once mastered, you can also name your price.
If you’re leaning towards content writing, they make an average of $49,000 a year, whereas a junior copywriter makes $51,000 a year.
You must be thinking there’s such a huge gap between average and highest – $111,000. Remember I said, if you’re a great writer, you can easily make a six-figure income. Now, that’s just slightly higher than the average base pay of a copywriter, the highest base pay is said to be $149,000.
Now, do you believe me when I say copywriting can be one of the most lucrative jobs out there? You must want to search for who hires copywriters to close your first gig right now.
In any case, the clear winner for both writers and employers is to pay by the project – not by word count. Why? Because, oftentimes, the assignment leads to the padding that bores readers on over skimming details. Therefore, it’s not healthy for a good working relationship and it’ll be a low-quality finished product.
At The Beginning Of Your Copywriting Career
Once you’ve found what type of writing interest you and you’ve mastered the strategy of your niche industry, then you can showcase your portfolio. And if you have a background in sales, you will do better. In reality, copywriters are closers in print.
Imagine that you’re a copywriter who wrote for a big company and because of your copy, it has helped the company doubled its monthly revenue or wrote a story ad that doubled their conversion rate.
They immediately gave you a raise and wrote an excellent testimonial about how your copy has doubled their monthly revenue and conversion rate significantly. With word of mouth referrals and your testimonials, you start to build your client list.
For example, A 350-word web homepage may fetch you between $200 – $500 whereas a long sales letter could give you $1,500. Once you’ve gained the success of your clients, you will likely get more repeat business.

Before we get into the nitty-gritty of who hires copywriters, I want to share with you one of my BIG MONEY secrets.
If you’re completely new to copywriting, don’t self-sabotage by saying, “I charge $5,000 and not a penny less” or “I’m new at this but I’m going to charge higher than anyone else”
Don’t forget, the marketplace always pays for value and never argue with the market – you’ll lose!
Specialize Your High-Income Skills
By specializing in your skills, you’ll be able to search for the right client.
- Industry: Aviation, Manufacturing, Healthcare, Travel, Self-Development, Fashion, Retail, and sports.
- Platform: LinkedIn, Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Myspace, Viber and Spotify.
- Emails, Chatbot, Landing page, Long sales letters, One-time offer pages, and SEO articles and many more.
- Product Type: Coaching and consulting, Seminars, E-commerce, Real estate, software, and investment.
- Personality: Write for only ONE personality brand – One voice (One client – more value)
Now, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of who hires copywriters and how are they paid based on what they write.Companies that are looking for content writers are usually – simple income – per gig or per batch. Click To Tweet
It can range from $15 -$80 an hour but most fall in the $30-$50 depending on expertise and experience
And if it’s a project base, this falls under windfall income. This is usually a recurring income on a monthly basis. For example $100 for one email and if you write one email a day for 30 days, that’s $3,000 a month, with that said, that’s only for one client.
So, if you’ve mastered your copywriting skills and you’re able to write three emails a day, that’ll give you an income of $9,000 a month from only one client – $108,000 – six-figure income. As I said, it’s a profession that you can easily make a six-figure income.Copywriting profession can easily make you a six-figure income Click To Tweet
After a while, you can increase to $150 per email. Now, imagine you have 4 clients with that rate – 4 clients, 4 emails a day. Each client gives you a $4,500 a month, perhaps you can now charge a consulting fee, let’s say, $2,000. Your total income will be $20,000 a month.
You Can Leverage Multiple Pillars
Get some gigs in your pocket, hone your craft and constantly develop an insatiable appetite for knowledge that cannot be filled by others. Once you get good – get at least one retainer client. Then you can take on projects as you desire.
Projects will make you at least $5,000 each and there are multiple pillars you can choose from. For instance, Facebook Ads, Landing pages, emails, chatbots and many more. So, If you get 2 projects, that’s $10,000 a month. However, taking on projects is not as simple as you think.
Why does it pay so much for projects and why is it only $150 for emails. You need to do a lot more research and by doing that, it takes so much more of your time compared to just writing emails. As a result, you’ll get paid what it’s worth – your time.
Are you Making Any Of These Mistakes?
